#news Hours before a woman hung her 2-year-old from a basement rafter in her $1 million home, she was texting her friends about Lindsay Clancy. #illinois Will County prosecutors say Corie A. Walsh told officers she k*lled her baby boy because he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ.” Witnesses told police she had recently become obsessed with the Lindsay Clancy m*rder trial and was in a group text where they were talking about that case until about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon on Sept. 1. #massachusetts Three and a half hours later, a 17-year-old neighbor found little Barrett in the basement hanging from a rafter in the basement. The neighbor immediately cut him down and started CPR, however he was already cold and didn't have a pulse. He was pronounced dead, and the autopsy's preliminary findings were "asphyxia from ligature compression of the neck." 🟦The same 17-year-old found Walsh sitting in a bathtub filled with water, fully clothed. She was allegedly cutting her wrists and thighs. 🟦The neighbor took a knife from her and threw it in a sink. 🟦Walsh did not have life-threatening injuries. She described how she k*lled her 2-year-old little boy to officers, and prosecutors say her statements matched the scene. 🟦She referred to the toddler as “Bear,” which was a family nickname. 🟦An infant was in the house (unharmed) and two older school-age children walked in around the time the body was found. 🟦Walsh’s husband was out of state and flew back Tuesday night. Prosecutors are asking a judge to deny pretrial release, calling Walsh “a specific, real and present threat to her husband and her living three children.” She was charged with three counts of first-degree m*rder; one death, three legal theories of intent. The first court date is set for Tuesday, Sept. 8. Defense attorney Andrea Lyon said Walsh “was experiencing a psychotic episode” and called the death a tragedy for the whole family. Critics saying this sounds eerily similar to the Clancy defense of psychosis, adding this is the first of many copycats who feel that using mental illness is an accepted excuse for k*lling their kids. The judge in the Clancy case declared a mistrial on the same day Walsh k*lled her 2-year-old Clancy’s own jury deadlocked the same Friday as Walsh was charged. A mistrial was declared in Massachusetts after weeks of testimony over whether Clancy knew what she was doing when she used exercise bands on Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, after sending her husband out for takeout and medicine. Prosecutors say the group texts, fixation on Clancy and the religious language about the toddler were all warning signs - Friends were talking to Walsh about Clancy that morning. By afternoon a neighbor was doing CPR on a 2-year-old.
