eff Bezos's New Glenn rocket exploded into a massive mushroom cloud fireball on the launchpad at Cape Canaveral during a static fire test. No injuries were reported. Elon Musk responded on X in five words: "Most unfortunate. Rockets are hard." The fully fueled rocket was being prepared for a mission to launch 48 Amazon satellites when it erupted into one of the largest rocket explosions in US history. A visible shockwave rolled across the complex. A lightning protection tower collapsed. The fireball was visible from East Orlando. Bezos addressed the loss directly: "Very rough day, but we'll rebuild whatever needs rebuilding and get back to flying." The billionaire space race is brutal. Does a setback this catastrophic knock Blue Origin out of competition with SpaceX, or does adversity like this build the kind of program that eventually wins?
