In combining of 3 different methods I saw on youtube, I now cut up a pop can with a pair of scissors , then fold it with the silver part out as shown about every 1/2 - 1/4 inch, unfold it, then use a ballpoint pin to write on this with a firm grip. The folds you made make for a springy tube that will wrap around the branch of the plant. This label needs no zip tie to hold it on to the plant, expands as the branch gets bigger, and will not fade.
