Look at this mindset . Again a middle school British reader from 130 years ago. I’m not an expert in Victorian culture but there’s at least a sense of continuity of a whole people as a race and through the past and the future, not just “my children and grandchildren “ ( but i think we’d be lucky if the older generations even cared about their own children). What possibly could a 8th grade boy be taught now about what is the good life: Quid est imperium Britannicum? Societās populōrum et nātiōnum, quae commūniōne beneficiōrum officiōrumque continētur. Colōniae prō Britanniā, commūnī omnium Britannōrum parente, sanguinem suum profundere parātae sunt. Nam prīncipātus Britannicus imperium et lībertātem, rēs quondam inter sē contrāriās, cōnsociat. Itaque illud patrocīnium orbis terrārum vērius quam imperium nōminārī oportet. Videāmus, mī fīlī, nē, ut maiōribus nostrīs pulcherrimum fuit tantam nōbīs glōriam imperiī trādere, sīc nōbīs turpissimum sit id quod accēpimus obtinēre et cōnservāre nōn posse.
