My 2 Loonies Worth September 7 2026 Every morning, we’re told Americans hate us, want our jobs, our resources, and most likely our maple syrup, plotting to take over our country. But honestly, if they’d really wanted to, they’d have done it long before we were even born—probably while we were still figuring out how to skate. What we miss in all this drama is that since the dawn of North America, we’ve been sharing more than just a border. Canada’s mostly English and French, the U.S. has English, Spanish, and even Acadians who wandered down from Eastern Canada, plus leftover French settlers from before the U.S. was a thing. We’re so tangled together through industries like mining, fishing, lumber, manufacturing, and especially sports and entertainment, you’d think we were one big awkward family. We play in each other’s arenas, perform on each other’s stages, make movies, and broadcast it all to the world as our joint masterpiece. Meanwhile, our proud CBC, instead of championing Canadian tales, borrows American shows like a neighbor borrowing sugar—forever. So, it’s pretty ironic we can’t figure out how to be good neighbors no matter who’s in charge. Maybe we should ask ourselves who’s gaining from this nonsense, because the rest of the world, including China, is watching—and the stakes for our sovereignty (if that’s even what’s at risk) are higher than a hockey puck in overtime. https://youtu.be/ULEiHmGXCAE
