A lifeguard with over 50 years of experience at Scarborough Beach State Park, Greg Wilfert, recently survived a terrifying encounter with a great white shark. While utilizing a rescue torpedo, he was unexpectedly dragged 5 to 6 feet underwater. Wilfert noted he initially believed he was caught in a boat propeller but quickly recognized the force as that of a shark. Following the incident, Scarborough Beach was closed for an hour as authorities monitored the waters, and safety measures were heightened, including closer lifeguard positioning and aerial surveillance.
