In Star Trek: First Contact, the black lady asked Picard where all the money came from to make spaceships and how much money. Picard lied in saying there was no money as there is money and always will be money. But of course we know what he was trying to say was much more nuance and such. . Since the dawn of time, humans have had different currencies for money, trading, bartering, transactions, renting, loaning, lending, borrowing, leasing, giving things away, exchanges, etc, meaning we have done a variety of things. You sometimes have a type of currency that a particular country or store may not accept. . Crusher must have gave away some of her belongings in order to accumulate the kind of money they would accept. She most likely used the currency to buy the stuff. . If Star Trek official canon is not clear on this or conflicted between the creator and the writers over the years, then this would be the easiest way to explain it away, that humans and other species from earth would sell whatever they could to anybody who had currencies and they would hold on to a wide variety of different currencies so they could use them if need be depending on which planets they may visit. . Humans do this today. I was teaching English in Vietnam and would collect Vietnamese Dong. You could collect Pounds and a wide variety of things. If you have no money, then find things to sell to them and get the money. Then you got the money. . Off camera, at Far Point, she probably made a far point or fair point to sell her earrings or her socks or her lipstick or something to get the arcade tokens or whatever they used be it Bitcoin or Bananas or who cares, and then she used that to buy stuff, problem solved.
