The biggest thing that stood out to me in 3 John was verse 5 which mentions strangers. The Bible sometimes talks about this aspect of grace, helping people without knowing some people may be angels of some kind or another. Grace is a long-term aspect to pursuing the meaning of life in part. Justice is a vital aspect of love. However, our perspective of justice, our attempts towards retribution too often turns into rage, revenge. Hospitality includes the washing of feet. It's not a question of do I help people but how do I help. Verse 4 mentions the children or more specifically the students or disciples. You sow fruits from the seeds you plants, the types of students you produce depends on the seeds you plant, reproducer reproducers as they would say at WOLBI. How many books are written to only one book? 3 John may be one. Timothy might be one or Timothy might be to a few people. There may be a few others or I am not sure. There are oral traditions or unwritten rules passed on from the dawn of time, we can look at them, we can learn things from them, some good, some bad. We can discover history especially from foreign journalists throughout history, aliens of foreign lands can be more honest regarding a stranger's country. It is less likely that what they write will be discovered and censored. Catholics and others went around the world burning books. They stole books and other things. So, it can be very hard to find history. One old saying or greeting was you would say He is risen. I would respond with, He is risen indeed.
