In one of my early novels, I labeled the UN as:: "The Whore House on the East River." Portions were loosely based on an Oregon Mega Church called "Living Enrichment Center." Some were probably enriched, but the church itself was the subject of the largest church bankruptcy and scandal in Oregon history. $10.8 million dollars, as I recall. The main minister -- Mary Mannin Morrissey -- took a plea bargain, and never went to jail. She used to give speeches at the UN. Also -- you can't make this stuff up! -- she was the minister who married my wife and myself decades ago.
