Testing the third prototype design. The first four shots used cases with large rifle primers. The fifth shot used a case with a small rifle primer, and although the primer detonated, it wasn’t enough to light the charge. So far the reinforcements on the third prototype are a success. The front lug on the upper receiver still has a small crack in it but this is a minor problem we are still working on. One of the goals for this project was for this upper to have standard handguard compatibility. Unfortunately, a gas tube is required to hold a standard handguard in place. There are ways we could still maintain standard handguard compatibility, but they would weaken and add complexity to the design. So for now this compatibility has been dropped. However, the third prototype design is still compatible with most AR15 free-float handguards.
