Joshua Norman Haldeman actively promoted the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a fraudulent antisemitic text, during his political career in Canada. While he occasionally made statements discouraging the publicization of antisemitism within his party, he defended the publication of the Protocols by a party newspaper, claiming the conspiracy outlined in the document was "rapidly unfolding" in his lifetime. Haldeman, the maternal grandfather of Elon Musk, was a chiropractor, aviator, and politician who moved to South Africa in 1950. In Canada, he was associated with the Technocracy Incorporated movement, which was banned by the Canadian government during World War II for opposing the war effort, and later joined the Social Credit Party, which disseminated the Protocols through its official channels. In South Africa, he became a supporter of apartheid, describing it as a defense of "White Christian Civilization" against an alleged international Jewish conspiracy.
