In this article Roberts covers many of the points I've been making here on Gab over the last 2 months. He equates Putin with the classical liberal, and I don't fully agree with that. Better analogy is to Peter the Great who is the first emperor of Russia at the dawn of the modern age. Peter captured the Crimean Khanate in the late 1690s and thus began his metamorphosis of Russia into a modern European state. Along the way he defeated the greatest European empire of the day and set the Ottoman empire back on its heels. Peter was authoritarian at home but pushed through many modernization projects and had a strong influence on the culture. I don't think Putin will ever be called Vladimir the Great. Although, like Peter he has modernized his country industrially. Unlike Peter, who sought to emulate Europe, Vladimir has pushed away European postmodernism and the bizarre aspects of its culture. Putin faces only one empire and that could be called the Rothschilds round table. To defeat it militarily means defeating the US. A feat even greater than Peter's defeat of Charles XXII. Both Russian leaders engaged their first pivotal battle in Ukraine. Peter won, much to Europe's surprise.
