“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do.” John 14:12 ESV I have come to the conclusion that the honest intellectual Christian must become a charismatic Christian, not because he puts aside his reason but because he embraces it. The honest intellectual pursues the truth wherever it leads and however it conflicts with the status quo. It may run against the grain of the world for the Church to say that God wants to rule the world through the Church. Men believe they can rule the world through technology, weapons, money, gene editing, and all they do is steal, kill, and destroy. Nevertheless, they barrel ahead as if they are the saviors of the world. But let the church say that God gives power to set the world right through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit and you will be run out of town, as Jesus was, even by many professing Christians. Many professing Christians believe in medicine, surgery, psychology, yoga, military force, political parties, influence, money, technology, and material possessions to save, heal, and deliver them. But say that a Christian can do the works of Jesus by following in the footsteps of Jesus and they will call you a heretic and a fanatic. What have we truly put our faith in?
