I was prompted to post this comment a short while ago at https://thepointsguy.com/guide/is-canada-open-for-travel/ when looking for websites that might have new info re Canada border restrictions, other than Canada Government's own websites. ""Mixed marriages" be aware: "I am a US citizen & resident w/ Canadian citizen & resident, ages 75 & 82 respectively. We arrived at border Sun 5/31 (Sarnia) expecting that my essential relationship of 19.5 yrs - the last 17 of which has been one of us always traveling together - would be recognized as "essential" rather than "discretionary". However, no way was the Canadian border guard going to let me enter despite this fact bc he was following his written department travel restrictions which didn't recognize husband-wife essential nature. So my husband chose to return to the US w/ me since we will not be parted (& also since the car is registered to me there wasn't even any way for him to get to his residence). The US border guards were actually very sympathetic & we passed through back into the US w/o incident & returned to my legal residence - in all we made a 30hr roundtrip w/ only gas & pit stops bc current Canada border restrictions are NOT mixed marriage friendly. We had attempted to get clarification re my ability to enter prior to the trip, but got nowhere w/ Canada Gov beyond the statements that the border guards would determine.... Very unhelpful. "So be aware, no matter what this website may say about immediate family relationship." Canadians aware of what is going on at US-border crossings? All in name of supposed "protection" from a virus that is primarily only of major concern to the frail & those w/ severe underlying health conditions....
