Have another "line-badge" story, but dunno the truth or origin of it. A young Airman Basic slick sleeve (E1-baby) was dispatched to watch the Entry Control Point (ECP) of the flight line. He was just supposed to check anyone entering the flight line to make sure they had their badge displayed. Sitting along with him in a little guard shack was a SSgt (Air Force Staff Sergeant E5) that didn't REALLY have much to do. He was a Security Policeman, armed with an M16, but was more there for show than anything else. A staff car showed up at the ECP and the Airman stopped the car and asked the driver to please show his line badge, and then nervously asked the One-Star General in the back seat to show his badge. The General ignored the Airman, and said "Drive on, driver." The Airman hollered for the SSgt, and he pulled himself away from his book and walked up to the car. He asked what the problem was, and the General stated, "Drive on, driver" again. The SSgt charged his weapon, looked at the General and asked, "Sir, I'm not sure of the protocol. Who do I shoot first, you, or the driver?" The General scrambled to pull out his line badge and the SSgt allowed them to drive through. Like I said, it's validity is in question, but is within the realm of possibility. That line about protocol has stayed with me for some 40+ years, though. LOL!
