The ideas of Alexander Hamilton were once recognized as synonymous with the 19th century American System of Political Economy. It was this system which was recognized the world over as being founded upon national sovereignty, cooperation, and industrial growth with many leading economists such as Henry C. Carey noting that this system stood in total opposition to the British System of Free Trade, Speculation and empire.
