HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE! 🌞 Five ravens gathered in my yard today, black-winged heralds beneath the Solstice sky. 🌞 In old lore, RAVENS are keepers of prophecy, memory, and the threshold between endings and beginnings. The term "unkindness" for a group o f ravens originates from medieval folklore and a specific misconception about their parenting habits. First recorded in the 1486 hunting manual The Book of Saint Albans, the name reflects two primary historical beliefs: Perceived Parental Cruelty: Medieval observers mistakenly believed that adult ravens were neglectful parents who kicked their chicks out of the nest prematurely, forcing them to fend for themselves before they were ready to fly. In reality, ravens are devoted parents that care for their young for months after they leave the nest. Ominous Associations: Ravens were historically linked to death, battlefields, and bad omens due to their scavenging habits. The term "unkindness" aligned with their reputation as dark, malevolent creatures rather than describing their actual social behavior. ✨️ Five speaks of freedom, change, and the courage to step beyond an old path. May what is finished nourish what is coming. May new wings find the wind. πŸ–€βœ¨ #Ravens #Birdlore #SummerSolstice
