Syria is still in pieces: Summary of Autonomous Zones and Control Confirmed Zones: Kurdish Zone (Northeast): SDF-controlled, U.S.-backed, semi-autonomous but negotiating integration with HTS-led Syria. U.S. Zone (Al-Tanf): Small but strategic U.S.-controlled area in the southeast, focused on countering ISIS and Iran. Druze Area (Suwayda and parts of Daraa/Quneitra): Significant autonomy with Druze militias, under pressure from HTS and influenced by Israel. Israeli-Controlled Buffer Zone (Southern Syria): Expanded demilitarized zone in Quneitra, Daraa, and Suwayda, aimed at securing Israel’s border and supporting Druze. Turkish-Controlled Zone (Northern Syria): SNA-administered areas under Turkish influence, nominally aligned with HTS but effectively autonomous. Alawite Coastal Region: Emerging autonomy with local Alawite influence, though under HTS’s nominal control and at risk of violence. Other Areas: Central and western Syria, while under HTS’s nominal control, see local factions and tribes exerting influence, creating de facto autonomous pockets. No other major distinct zones are currently reported.
