If you’re already struggling to keep your New Year’s resolutions, this may be why. 1. Living with intention is not a one-time thing. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a paradigm shift. And paradigm shifts take time to implement. Why? Because they’re often rooted in identity. What do you believe about yourself? Do you believe that you are capable? Doing the work means digging a bit deeper to discover the reason behind the struggle. 2. It’s winter—at least here in the Northern hemisphere. Everything is dark and dormant, and it’s downright hard to kick anything into gear when all you want to do is rest and take things more slowly. Did you know that previous calendars started the new year in spring? The new year coincided with new life, a time of renewal and new birth. If you’re feeling stuck in the middle of winter, use this time to reflect, plan, and prepare instead. There will be time to step into the newness. Be patient. Spring will come. 3. You don’t have systems in place. You may have bought the pretty planner and the new app, but if you don’t have a system, it won’t be long before your days are filled with to-do lists and appointments—neither of them helping you work toward the goals and resolutions you have set. A planning system breaks it down for you. It takes you step-by-step through the reflection process, helping you zero in on your priorities. Then it helps you create a plan for action with monthly checkpoints that keep you focused on the most important things. I personally use my Home+School Planner with built-in systems that help me recalibrate when I’m feeling a bit off course. It guides me through reflections, prompts, and planning pages that help me connect with what matters most—in the beginning of January and into the rest of the year.
