The reality of electoral cycles functioning as a type of selection process alluded to in a statement attributed to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, where the career politician indicated that “presidents are selected, not elected”. Further evidence of the nomination process being dictated by factors beyond those acknowledged by corporate telecommunications agencies and their mainstream media affiliates concerns the practice of gerrymandering, a term synonymous with the circumvention of prior established ballot regulation with the manufacture of partisan or incumbent-insulated electoral precincts through the manipulation of geographical boundary. This reorientation of predefined congressional districts into parti pris voting blocs designed to effect a measure of numerical superiority over a particular opponent in the political arena.
