https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JMlFatyKib8 - 9mm Parabellum Bullet - Sacrifice I love the Souls franchise and found some great anime opening compilations that I can’t not share anymore. Number five on the list is a reappearance of 9mm Parabellum Bullet - Sacrifice, (but @blackwaterodysee may like this one more with it being more concentrated than the former.) I want video games to make openings as marketing material. Watch this and you will be compelled to buy/play this game! Already making plans to utilize concepts for marketing material! 0:13 - a solid start with a pan up on what I believe is Filianore (correct me if I’m wrong), then three smash cuts to black where the title card fades in to the introduction of the guitar riff. Not uber original, but not a bad start. 0:14-23 - two nice helicopter camera shots, which I admit I’m a sucker for whenever used. The three smash cut sequences following have a similar issue of not having a lot of narrative weight or gameplay action compared to post three of my SoulsBorne anime openings list: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp26isVODHE&t=5s, which made use of gameplay edited with the music keys. 0:24-37 - some long shots that work for the moment in the music, but like I said, I don’t recognize any narrative weight behind the scenes, which is where you want to pull out the emotional stuff in an opening. 0:38-1:21 - the former problems are remedied for the most part where we have a sweet smash cut sequence of the protagonist and the burning ring as the camera pans up at a crawl with each snare hit. The following clips have an exuberant focus on Slave Knight Gael which I think could been traded for some more variety of bosses and between-boss duels, though some are in there. The pacing of the cuts is timed perfectly with the rhythm, which does help elevate the otherwise visual staleness. 1:22-1:30 - despite the flaws, the cut of Solaire of Astora with Knight Lautrec of Carium, as Solaire walks into the castle, glances back at Lautrec to turn back and give a clenched fist like a true Chad keeps this video on my list. While not all on this list are top tier, the weaker ones I do have (this and number three especially) have good examples of cinematography with editing clips to music or some gem scenes that work so perfectly with the music they’re put with, which I think has some merit at least to use as reference. #gaming #entertainment #anime #manga #videogames
