First day of American history class and already the teacher is showing her activism. This woman says prehistoric is “improper, which is why we now use pre-contact.” I argued that prehistoric is actually “an era before it is first recorded in writing.” She wasn’t having it though with “subjective definitions” fallacy. Before I could acknowledge “pre-contact” was more England-biased than “prehistoric,” she steamrolls into the century old Columbus straw-man. I then said Christopher DID discover America FOR ENGLAND, which is where the American Colonists hailed from. She was not having it. 15 more weeks of this. Can’t wait to get into my core studies.
