We love using heirloom varieties in the garden so we are able to save the seeds from our plants. Almost all heirloom tomatoes are indeterminate, so that is primarily what we raise. Indeterminate tomatoes grow to an "indetermined" height, so they will get as tall you let them. We love to use 8' high cattle panels for our trellises (we take a 16' panel, cut it in half and turn it on end) . Determinate tomatoes (which many of the newer hybrids are) have a smaller, bushier growth habit that can get by with shorter trellises or tomato cages. Watch below to see how we utilize the "trench" method for planting our tomatoes as deep as possible. We will also discuss some key points about pruning un-needed foliage when planting. https://youtu.be/H_JycHWPu8M
