Pedro Sánchez's government has proposed a new asylum law that would presume migrants whose age is in doubt are under 18 while authorities determine their real age. The government says the measure fill provide greater protection for ulnerable and unaccompanied minors. In 2024, 2,457 illegal migrants who claimed to be children were ultimately determined to be adults by Spanish authorities.
