Rocks, marbles, and sand... We all know the story. You have a jar. You have three things to put into the jar - rocks, marbles, and sand. If you put the sand and marbles in first, the rocks don't fit. The rocks represent the most important things in your life. It isn't a bad teaching tool. But most folks I counsel aren't missing the rocks. They are working hard in their job and household. They are part of a decent church. Where are things going wrong and why aren't they making progress? The marbles and sand. You see, if you look carefully at the jar with just the rocks you quickly realize... there is a LOT of space around those rocks. Space of all shapes and sizes. You can't fit another 90 minutes of drive to gym, work out, drive home rock into your schedule... but you can easily fit four or five 15 minute marbles of assault bike, kettle bell, walking, mobility into your day. You can't fit another 2 hour rock block of work most days, but you can fit three twenty minute blocks of studying a new skill, reading a book, improving this or that area of marbles. You can't fit a weekly date night or this or that, but you can fit in dozens of texts, writing notes and cards, a few minute back massage, and a dozen other little things towards your wife every day with the sand you have. You can't fit another Bible study or function rock into your week, but you can memorize a Psalm per week with three five minute marbles every day. With marbles and sand you can write a book, reads dozens of books, learn skills, improve your marriage, and a hundred other goals and tasks. Most of us aren't fumbling the rocks. But the marbles and sand are slipping through our fingers and hands. Use them better, and you will make better your life
