You find yourself raising your voice at the kids again. Feeling stressed out. Looking at thirty or more minutes of cleanup when... you... just... did it seems like thirty or more minutes of cleanup. Their jackets, shoes, hats and gloves are strewn across the floor for the fifth time that morning. The bathroom floor is covered in toilet paper, books, and what looks like the poor attempts at three different science fair projects. You just did dishes, and their are more cups on the counter than you knew you even owned. At the root of many of these issues is one primary issue - In many families, the children are training the parents, instead of the parents training the children. The children are instilling habits in their mom and dad, instead of their father and mother instilling good habits in them. The parents expectations are low and wrong, letting the children rule and foul the roost. Charlotte Mason understand this well over a century ago - “The mother who takes pains to endow her children with good habits secures for herself smooth and easy days; while she who lets their habits take care of themselves has a weary life of endless friction with the children.” Good household habits aren't just about keeping a healthy, orderly home - they also help create healthy, orderly relationships among those in the home. A home full of folks - big and small - with bad habits is a home that often will be filled with folks who also have bad relationships. So, make sure you and your wife take pains to train your children in good habits, lest they train you. Make sure your life schedule isn't so busy and full that this falls through the cracks. The sooner you invest here, the longer you will enjoy and the larger the returns you and your household will enjoy. Painting - Kleuteronderwijs.
