As my older kids get into the beginnings of finding a spouse and marriage age bracket, I have had a simple observation about the young men. Young men who had access to good male only spaces - places that taught them manliness and then mixed spaces where they were encouraged and required to practice manliness - and male mentorship are generally stand outs among their peers. Young men who didn't have this generally seem saddled with issues and problems. What kinds of issues and problems? They tend to be personally insecure, socially awkward, and vocationally average at best. There is an unique opportunity right now. We can rebuild male only spaces. We can rebuild female only spaces. We can rebuild sensible, godly male/female spaces that allow young men and women to practice manliness and femininity and where older folks model both for them. But we must first realize a basic truth - young men learn best from older men in primarily male only spaces. And there are very few of those left in our day. So, we need to Build men's relationships, groups, and activities around truly manly things - a Saturday car brakes and oil change with sons, instead of "sharing your feelings" with bacon. A firearms fun Saturday morning instead of yet another didactic Bible study where men often hide from growth instead of find it. Build women's groups that actually teach women to love their husbands, love their children, be chaste, and care for their households - drop the silly constant steam of poorly written Jesus is my boyfriend (usually by women) devotionals and study books that the last few decades have shown 3 to 1 are more likely to lead ladies astray than to spiritual growth in Christ. Build dance clubs and social events that honor men and women as men and women. Folks are looking for these things all across the country - they are searching for islands of sanity in a sea of confusion, compromise, and perversion when it comes to men and women. We can be the ones who provide them.
