God directed Moses to write the book of Genesis to explain to the Israelite people who they were and why they were called out by Him. God, through Moses, told them how everything got started, who they were, what they were supposed to do, and why they were supposed to do it. He told them their history and told them to completely destroy the Canaanites because the Canaanites would destroy their culture and ruin their future. The Canaanites had no promise. No desire to follow God. A nation with no knowledge of its history and no understanding of its foundation has no hope for maintaining itself in the future.
