Universal Prayer. Magical Gateways. The Universal Prayer - Theosophical Society. The words, by Annie Besant (in 1923), have been set to music, have been chanted and sung. It is an antiphonal recitation of what has come to be known as the “Universal Prayer” or “Universal Invocation.” (before the Great Invocation was given to Alice in 1945). Universal Prayer recited in the Theosophical Society. Simple in the extreme, the words possess the magical power of a mantra. They are also a recognition & a call & a Teaching. O Hidden Life, vibrant in every atom; O Hidden Light, shining in every creature; O Hidden Love, embracing all in Oneness; May all who feel themselves as one with Thee, Know they are therefore one with every other. We know words are precious and often fragile vehicles not only for thought, but for the aspirations of the heart. They can convey not only mundane meanings that help us out & about in the world and assist us in relating us to each other (with communication that is Ahimsa)... but also they hold the hunger of the soul and the beauty of the spirit in their reaching out to others. The “more-ness” in our words of Ahimsa & of love remains forever indefinable and therefore unspeakable often within the heart. These, as well as the Great Invocation & the Esoteric mantrams, so many posted here, are Magical Words & Works of the disciple. They are Gates, Portals, Pathways, Doorways & Thresholds. For the Seeker. We recite them with knowledge & with love. They are our friends. Risa
