Today is my birthday, and what a gift it is! I had the incredible privilege of the world-famous, galaxy-renowned Prince Baby Hayden Thomas spending the night. Waking up to his sweet smile this morning made it perfect before the day even started. 😎 My phone has been lighting up all morning with texts and calls from family and friends wishing me a happy birthday. Thank you all so much! I say it every year, but it’s always true: Coach Jimmy V. was right when he said, “If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day.” Today, I’ve done all three, and my heart is full. I’m so thankful for my beautiful family — especially my wife Teresa, our sons Jordan and Jarrod, and their wonderful wives Ashley and Alyssa. And of course, our little man, Hayden. You all mean more to me than words could ever express. You are my greatest blessings. July 10th also brings precious memories of two very special people who shared this same birthday and made a huge impact on my life. Jennifer Kozee… I always called you my birthday present. From the moment you were born, you brought so much joy to everyone around you — especially me. I miss you deeply, especially today. 😭 Mike Smith… A true friend I met when I first moved to North Carolina. For years we stayed in touch, checking on each other’s families, bragging on our kids, spouses, and grandkids. Those conversations meant the world to me. I miss you, brother. 😭 Even though we miss you both and the tears still come, we celebrate knowing you are in God’s glorious presence — smiling, whole, and with hearts overflowing with joy. I’m striving every day to make you both proud. Please know you are loved, remembered, and deeply cherished. I wish you both the happiest of birthdays in Heaven.
