FOREST GROVE, Ore — Five people and several animals are dead after a mass homicide in a rural stretch outside Forest Grove on Saturday, and the man suspected of carrying it out is also dead in an apparent suicide — his body found roughly 50 miles southeast of Seattle. Benjamin Charles Parker, 36, was found dead in Enumclaw, Washington. Investigators are still piecing together what happened and why, and limited details have been released. Here's where things stand. What happened The incident started early — around 5:27 a.m. Saturday — when Washington County Sheriff's deputies were called out to help Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, who were dealing with a vehicle fire near Hillside Road, at 47350 Northwest Otis Lane. While working the fire, firefighters discovered human remains and called law enforcement. "This is some suspicious circumstances certainly, so we're gonna ... just take our hoses and get out of here and let the sheriff's office clear this. Then we'll return," the dispatch log said. What investigators found once they got there was grim: five people dead, along with multiple domesticated animals. Washington County Detective Shannon Wilde confirmed Sunday that the case was being investigated as a "quintuple homicide" — all five deaths are being treated as murders. Investigators said early on that they they didn't think the killings were random. The property appears to be around 15 acres and is a mix of farm and forestland with at least one home on the site. Who are the victims? The Washington County Sheriff's Office identified the five victims late Monday afternoon. One of the victims, 60-year-old Rowan Karla Kimsey, owned and lived on the property. Another victim was her mother, 85-year-old Mary Elizabeth Kimsey, from Portland. Also killed were Linsey Mae Haraldsen, 26, and Alvin Raymond Chu, 27, a couple from Portland. The last victim, 26-year-old Stella Jade Kimsey, was best friends with Linsey and the granddaughter of Mary, WCSO said. She lived on the property with her boyfriend, Benjamin Parker, the suspected killer. Found dead in the aftermath of the mass killing were two cats and two dogs, the sheriff's office said. Another cat was found injured and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment, but later had to be euthanized "due to the extent of its injuries." Livestock on the property has since been rehomed, WCSO added. Next-of-kin for all of the victims have been notified. Forest Grove Fire & Rescue posted a response to the community on social media Monday: "Tragedies like our community experienced over the weekend are incredibly sad, while also being so hard on our hearts and souls. Even though many of you did not know the vibrant lives so needlessly lost, some of you most certainly did. While others still undoubtedly moved past them in a local grocery store, restaurant, or our otherwise normal day-to-day lives. These were our friends, and our neighbors, and they too called this beautiful place home." What about the suspect? Detectives identified Parker as the suspect fairly quickly, though they haven't explained how. They tracked him to Enumclaw, Washington. On Sunday night, authorities reported that officers with the Enumclaw Police Department had found Parker's vehicle behind a Safeway store and discovered him dead inside.
