𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐔 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 At the SourceLess Key Event in October 2025, we warned that Chat Control would return. And it just did. The European Parliament backed the return of temporary rules allowing platforms to voluntarily scan communications for child sexual abuse material. This is not the full original Chat Control proposal. In the Parliament version, end-to-end encrypted services are excluded. Still, the vote should alarm us. While most MEPs who voted were against it, the measure survived because blocking it required an absolute majority of 361 members, not a simple majority of votes cast. Child abuse online is REAL and children need protection. But fighting abuse should not normalize private-message scanning. Once scanning becomes accepted infrastructure, it rarely stops at the first emergency. A safer internet should not mean a monitored one. Stay informed.
