The Internet Society warned about this in a 2026 report on remote peering and growing dependence on international hubs. When submarine cables were damaged off East Africa in 2024, connectivity dropped across several countries. Other routes, local Internet Exchange Points and cached content kept parts of the network running. That ability to lose part of a network without losing everything is called 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. With 𝐒𝐋𝐍𝐍 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐡, SourceLess is developing local mesh networks where nodes can communicate and relay data through one another. If one node or route goes down, another path may still be available, while communication inside the mesh doesn’t have to depend on the global Internet for every exchange.
