The more information that emerges about Maria Bartiromo’s abrupt departure from Fox, the more important it is to separate what is established from what remains speculation. Fox has publicly said only that Maria is no longer with the network and later characterized the decision as a “business decision,” while her attorney has strongly disputed reports that she was simply fired and says evidence and witnesses exist that will eventually tell a fuller story. That is why I find Svetlana Lokhova’s account from 2019 relevant. She says she spent weeks preparing an interview with Maria concerning allegations surrounding the origins of the Trump Russia investigation, only to have Fox leadership prevent the full interview from airing. Whether every allegation in that account is ultimately substantiated or not, the episode raises a legitimate historical question about how much editorial resistance Maria may have encountered when pursuing politically sensitive stories. Now we have another reported point of friction, recent reporting says Maria shared internal Fox communications with the White House, while other accounts have connected the controversy to her interest in pursuing claims involving China and election related activity. Fox itself has not publicly established that China reporting was the reason for her departure, so I would not present that as fact. But logically, the pattern is worth examining. If Maria repeatedly pushed stories she believed deserved public scrutiny, including matters involving government institutions, election security and possible Chinese influence, and repeatedly encountered resistance from management, then her departure deserves considerably more explanation than the phrase “business decision.” That does not prove she was removed because of any particular investigation. It does mean that dismissing the surrounding circumstances without asking questions would be intellectually careless. I will wait for the evidence Maria’s attorney says is coming. Until then, I think the proper position is simple; distinguish fact from allegation, recognize the historical context, and follow the evidence wherever it leads.🇺🇸🖖
