A helicopter towing a 17,000 ton warship sounds impossible until you understand what actually happened. During testing with Sikorsky, the CH-53A Sea Stallion was connected to USS Austin and used its enormous power to tow the ship through the water. The helicopter obviously wasn’t lifting 17,000 tons into the air. The water was supporting the ship, meaning the aircraft only needed enough force to overcome resistance and move the hull. Still, watching a massive warship being towed by a helicopter is an incredible demonstration of what the CH-53 was capable of. #MilitaryHistory #USMilitary #Helicopters #fblifestyles
