It's a religion where collective "humanity" or "society" takes the place of the Christian "God" as the object of reverence and sacrifice. Instead of a church with priests as the representative of the divine, one has the state with officials. Objectivism rejects this substitution. It holds that there is no mystical "higher power" above the individual. Society is fundamentally a collection of individuals in various relationships with each other.
