Ignaz Semmelweis was a young physician in the 19th century who discovered that there was a link between #hygiene (basic hand washing) and maternal mortality rates in hospitals. He demonstrated the link and practically eliminated maternal mortality in #hospitals by implementing strict hand-washing procedures among medical staff. Yet, his discovery was ignored. He was mocked by fellow physicians and eventually kicked out of the medical practice.
