It wasn't until 1872 (after India was given “independence”) 😏 when the first Hindu was initiated into the Brotherhood. Prosonno Coomar Dutt was admitted into the English Lodge 'Anchor and Hope' after a nine-year campaign. Twenty-three years later, he rose in rank and became a District Grand Lodge Master. >**In particular, Swami Vivekanda made history as the youngest Hindu to rise to the degree of Master Lodge**. **The Lodges in India were under the Grand Lodges of England, Scotland or Ireland till 1961, when the Grand Lodge of India was formed**. Eminent personalities such as Swami Vivekananda, Motilal Nehru, C. Rajagopalchari, Rajendra Prasad, S. Narendranath, who was by then known as Swami Vivekananda, surprised everyone as he spoke on Hindu culture and religion at World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. **It is believed that the freemasons helped Swami Vivekananda during his time in Chicago**.
