THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR - THE POOR FELLOW-SOLDIERS OF CHRIST AND OF THE TEMPLE OF SOLOMON “Hugh of Champagne was one of nine knights who founded the Knights Templar, as we know it today, in 1118. When Hugh became a Knight Templar himself in 1118, the Order comprised few more than a dozen knights, and the first Grand Master of the Templars was a vassal of his, Hugues de Payens, who had been with him at Jerusalem in 1104. On Christmas Day, Hugues de Payens and eight knights take a vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience before the Patriarch in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and become the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Jesus Christ. The Knights Templar are conceived.“ ________ The Knights Templar “…the Knights Templar, an order of religious knights that had been founded in Jerusalem in 1119-20 in order to defend the routes of pilgrimage to that holy city. Receiving official papal recognition in 1139, they quickly spread across Europe and the Holy Land, accumulating power, authority, responsibility and land. After first settling in Holborn at some point before 1148, the Templars moved their London headquarters down to the area south of Fleet Street, where they began in 1160 to build a new church, modelled on the round Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. This Church was completed and consecrated in 1185 by Heraclius, Patriarch of Jerusalem, and is known today as the Temple Church. A substantial complex of buildings - including cloisters, chapels, halls, mills, a brewhouse and a granary grew up around Temple Church, the area coming to be known as 'the New Temple'. A great gate was constructed at the Fleet Street entrance to the land, on the site of the present day Middle Temple Gate, and landing stages were constructed for access to and from the Thames.” “The Templar trials expert Professor Malcolm Barber details quite a few confessions made after 1307 that give you the full picture. This is merely a taster: • John of Cugy, a 53 year-old Templar who had been keeper of the mills in Paris told an inquisitor that the Visitor of France (a very senior Templar knight) had taken him behind the altar and "kissed him on the base of the spine and the navel". After that, he was told to spit on the crucifix. Nice. • Ithier of Rochefort under torture admitted to "obscene" kisses and "the incitement to homosexuality" • Nicholas of Sarra denied the holiness of an effigy of Christ before stripping off and being kissed again at the base of the spine, the navel and the mouth • Ralph of Grandeville had homosexuality "enjoined upon him" via the usual kisses • William of Giac said that while he was in Cyprus as a brother serving with the knights, he had "carnal relations" with the Grand Master, Jacques de Molay - who was later burnt at the stake in 1314” ________ “Another knight of the order, Hugo de Paraudo, said that, in a chapter at Montpellier, he had both seen, held, and felt, the idol or head, and that he and the other brothers adored it but he, like the others, pleaded that he did not adore it in his heart. He described it as supported on four feet, two before and two behind. Guillaume de Arrablay, the king's almoner, said that in the chapter at which he was received, a head made of silver was placed on the altar, and adored by those who formed the chapter. He was told that it was the head of one of the eleven thousand virgins, and had always believed this to be the case, until after the arrest of the order, when, hearing all that was said on the matter, be "suspected" that it was the idol, and he adds in his deposition that it seemed to him to have two faces, a terrible look, and a silver beard. It does not appear clear why he should have taken a head with two faces, a fierce look, and a beard, for one of the eleven thousand virgins, but this is, perhaps, partly explained by the deposition of another witness, Guillaume Pidoye, who had the charge of the relics, etc, belonging to the Temple in Paris, and who produced a head of silver gilt, having a woman's face, and a small skull, resembling that of a woman, inside, which was said to be that of one of the eleven thousand virgins. At the same time another head was brought forward, having a beard, and supposed to be that of the idol. Both these witnesses had no doubt confounded two things. Pierre Garald, of Mursac, another witness, said that after he had denied Christ and spitten on the cross, the receptor drew from his bosom a certain small image of brass or gold, which appeared to represent the figure of a woman, and told him that "he must believe in it, and have faith in it, and that it would be well for him". Here the idol appears in the form of a statuette.” “One of the legends tells us that after the order was prohibited and Templars were persecuted through the whole Europe a certain number of leading Knights withdrew in the Alps mountains and established the country of Switzerland. There are numerous similarities between Templar Order and modern Switzerland. Templar flag is very similar to flags of some Switzerland cantons. Also, Templars were inventors of the modern banking system while the foundation of Switzerland's economy in these days is also banking sector. One more similarity that we could add is the old tradition of Swiss Guard serving and protecting the Pope of Rome from 1506, while Templars also gave their allegiance only to Pope.” https://weaponsandwarfare.com/2016/12/08/the-poor-fellow-soldiers-of-christ-and-of-the-temple-of-solomon/
