I was rocking NVidia cards for a long while there. I was running a server chasis with 3 NVidia units for quite a while. Once the drivers are stable on those things, you might get some updates on the periphery and that is it. They actually cut my products off for support after like 10 years of use, so i got my money's worth out of them. Then on top of it, there is nothing really preventing the old drivers from working. The Layman will never have to worry about this too dramatically. In this video it looked like they have had some unstable driver batches, and you'll have that problem with new cards. I had run hacked drivers for a while to allow for weird things like SLI with unlike cards. It allowed for SLI with the Graphics that came with the motherboard, or is embedded on the CPU. Those drivers control, and restrict ALL sorts of things. With NVidia though, the drivers are NOT open source. I have since moved to AMD and Intel for graphics. Mostly AMD, although newer Intel cards are really interesting. They do provide enough to play certain games. Which is what people are going to use them for. or are really going to be interested in. When it comes to these two, they do release open source drivers. It does make installing Linux a heck of a lot easier too. It's just going to work... If you have NVidia cards, get ready to use the NVidia driver which replaces most of the X or Wayland stack, and while it works decently when you get it going. It will lack features vs. your average Windows driver. That has been the shameful lay of the land for Linux and NVidia for a long time. Why? Because there is this view amongst NVidia driver creators that Linux is going to be for workstations and not for games. That has been persistent for so long too.
