A recurring theme in Japanese anime is the need to incorporate a part of evil or upgrade oneself mechanically in order to survive in a society and world that has become inhuman. In Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori devours a cursed finger; in Cyberpunk Edgerunners, David Martinez integrates machine implants.
