Can Biotin Help Detoxify Oxalate? This is a hypothesis that may reconcile some anecdotes and has many hints suggested in the enzymological literature. Sally Norton in her new book Toxic Superfoods: How Oxalate is Making You Sick brought it to my attention that oxalate inhibits several enzymes, including the biotin-dependent enzyme pyruvate carboxylase. In this post, I will go a step further: I will propose the hypothesis that the biotin-dependent enzyme pyruvate carboxylase actually detoxifies oxalate.
