"But you should not be called โ€˜๐— ๐˜† ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ข๐—ป๐—ฒโ€™ {ยฒยณโฐ} for there is only one Who is Great and you are all brothers." {ยฒยณโฐ} Aramaic here does not mean โ€œRabbiโ€ as in โ€œteacherโ€ per se, as in Matthew 28 Yโ€™shua commands his disciples to teach the world. Instead, Yโ€™shua is addressing the more literal meaning of โ€œrabโ€ which is โ€œgreatโ€ as shown in Genesis 6:5, โ€œ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฌ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ธ๐˜ข๐˜ด *๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต* ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ.โ€ The previous eight verses teach against elitist behavior, so โ€œdo not be called โ€˜๐˜”๐˜บ ๐˜Ž๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜–๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆโ€™, for you have One that is Great, YHWH.โ€ This is directed to the Rabbis (leaders) themselves, not to the followers. Certainly, this does not win popularity among the Rabbis.
