The concept of "No Double Jeopardy" is one of the most comforting aspects of the Gospel. In a human court, you cannot be tried twice for the same crime. In God's "court," the price for the sin was already paid by Jesus. If God were to demand payment from you (in the form of condemnation) after Jesus already paid it, He would be "unjust"—and we know God is perfectly just. God is much like a human father: If a child breaks a window while playing ball in the house, the father might pay for the window himself (covering the debt). But he might still take the ball away for a week (discipline). The father isn't "charging" the son for the window; he is training the son to be more careful and responsible.
