From the industrial military complex to the financial military complex. Since 1960 there has been talk of the industrial military complex - and to this must now be added the "financial military complex." The Pentagon is forming a new team of 30 bankers to invest $200 billion over three years in rearmament projects, with the goal of facing China. The Defense Department is specifically pursuing the staff of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan and Bank of America as the top recruits for the bankers team in a three-year program. To raise money, the plan is to sell shares in exchange for defering tax payments. Trump likes the model of sovereign wealth funds similar to those of the Persian Gulf and Asian countries, using private capital to exercise his political hegemony in the world. Through its trade negotiations and military budget increases, the government now has hundreds of billions of dollars to invest in critical industries. The bottleneck is finding offers. The Pentagon wants to create a unit of "sponsors for coverage," which would act as a banker of its own that would serve private equity firms that present agreements critical to national security, provide advice and agree loans. The team will depend on David Lorch, from the Cerberus vulture fund, and George K. Kollitides II, former director of Remington and now shareholder of the vulture fund Alvarez & Marsal Capital. They join undersecretary of defense Stephen Feinberg, the billionaire co-founder of Cerberus, who has been reshaping the way the Pentagon operates. Feinberg is the one who has led the operation. Many of the Trump administration's investments in private companies have been overseen by the Pentagon, including the recent $1 billion in a subsidiary of L3Harris, a technology company, a defense contractor. The mission: to help deter our greatest adversary [China] from obtaining military superiority," the plan says. In order for bankers not to go to the box without any personal gain, the report promises them - unparalleled access to high-level government officials and a flow of inside information.
