Once upon a time, before there were fairies or fairy tales, there were sayings. Like fairy tales, sayings were things people lived by without knowing where they came from or who first said them. Some sayings originated as simple sentences; others were excerpted from longer works. Whole religions were founded on the basis of collections of sayings. People went to war over sayings. Sayings defined reality because nobody questioned them. They were simply true. Do you doubt me? “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” Still confused? “A little learning is a dangerous thing.” Want to fight me on this? “To err is human, to forgive divine.” Sayings are fighting words, but they are also words that console and heal. https://dragoncommonroom.com/so/8eP_RKyY_/
