I was graduating Army AIT(training) when 9/11 happened. The command told us to take a smoke break while they gained awareness. Once outside, a known scumbag started to prattle about invasions and deployments. He was telling people they won't be going home and wouldn't see their families. He laughed about going to war as some of the females began to cry. They had to drag me off him. I joined the Army to fight. I was angry in my youth. Inside, i delighted at the prospect of going to war, and cringed at the reality of my wish. But, i never pined for war openly. I believed a Soldier fights so that others may enjoy peace. Back then, I believed that violence was a taboo and it should only be necessary for the preservation of the most sacred. In other words, I believed that people were mostly peaceful and kind, as they should be, but the military provided a relief for those who had a curiosity for violence, or even sadism. I justified most of my violence as self defense, or for righteous cause. In some ways I have change, but one thing remains; Glorify deadly conflict is juvenile fear-mongering. Most of the dipshits that talk about the oncoming war are soft cowards. The posers waving the battle flags always have excuses. No one needs any more fear or hype. What we are all clamoring for is positive solutions. Even if there is a war, so what? Wars are fought to attrition or compromise. Find that compromise now and the war is aborted. The solution will have been the same either way.
