It still turns on, it could still work -- it just isn't allowed to Our new Electronic Waste Graveyard report examines how "#software death" is turning usable technology into WASTE. Here's what we found. .@ Spotify's "Car Thing," for example, was made non-operational less than three years after release. The decision left customers with little choice but to discard devices they had expected to keep using Our Electronic Waste Graveyard lists more than 100 tech products that have stopped working after manufacturers dropped support. Since 2014, we estimate that expired software and canceled cloud services have generated at least 130 MILLION POUNDS of electronic waste -- more than twice the weight of the Statue of Liberty. And that number could grow dramatically. With the end of support for #Windows10, up to 400 million PCs may be unable to upgrade to #Windows 11 -- potentially creating another 1.6 BILLION POUNDS of e-waste from #computers that could otherwise keep working. At a time when the world is already throwing away 10s of MILLIONs of TONs (a TON is 2000 POUNDS) of #electronics each year, we shouldn't be adding to the problem by cutting off support for devices that still have life left in them. It can also create security risks.
