A morning on the farm: I woke up in a black pill mood only to say no, and turn that around. The heavy fog rolled in last night and it's a thick New England blanket. While feeding and tending to the animals I started to enjoy the quiet the fog brings and shake off the damp chill the cool morning air brings. It dampens sound and sight and shows the world in a different light. Everything seems to slow down inside the misty haze. None of the animals are filled with zest, vim and vigor except a few chickens but I'm convinced they're insane regardless of weather. Standing in a blurred world I comb, brush and bond with the donkeys, listening to their breathing slow down to a deep slow content pace. As I lean down to brush their chest and belly my face is on the same level as theirs and those big anime eyes connect with you and I feel it's where I'm supposed to be. Of course when one is being brushed, the all want to be brushed...so they cuddle in all around you to remind you....don't forget me too. As I feed chickens, I see a wonderful work of engineering - a spiders web that caught the droplets of fog and turned it into a work of art. This particular spider builds beautiful webs way up high sometimes from 8-15 feet up and somehow manages to do it every single night building a new web. I don't have nice words when I accidentally walk into them face first on occasion. just ugh. Then it's off to walk the pup through the field that I needed to mow many weeks ago but still haven't. And seeing him running across a field free and happy warms my heart. I also partake in one of my favorite things to do in summer and that is to walk back through the orchard and eat my breakfast from the trees and bushes. Fresh fruit and berries. The plums were glistening with morning dew and so so sweet. I must have eaten more than my fill because even my pup said dad, let's go now. Eventually we headed back to the house. I also know he's going to be soaking wet and have to remind myself to dry him off before letting him back in the house or the Mrs will not be pleased. So from waking up black pilled to enjoying a fresh fruit breakfast from the orchard, that was my morning summed up. Enjoy the day all.
