It's been a while since I used Gab. What have I missed? I've been in the process of prepping for the Zombie Apocalypse. One thing I have learned is that it is useful even as a thought experiment. The strategy and planning forces you to imagine all sorts of scenarios that you don't normally entertain, and what I have realized is the biggest threat is the potential for the loss of data present on the Internet. I realize we have been told to save everything offline, but one person cannot possibly do such a thing. You have to take what you believe would be most useful and discard the rest. As a kid, there was no Internet for me. That was something that happened while I was away in the military. By the time I got out, there's this Internet thingy and everyone is excited about it. For someone who used to go to the library to read the encyclopedia, the Internet showed great promise, but I grew up in a rural environment and knowledge was scarce. The people who have grown up with the Internet always being there seem to take all of that knowledge for granted. The problem with having so much information always available at your fingertips means you are likely to take it for granted, and it causes your scholarship to lose discipline, since you start thinking that you can always come back and look it up later. But what happens if there's an EMP or somebody hacks the WWW? Frankly, we're screwed. If you go to the public libraries anymore, they have gotten rid of most of there books to make room for computers. But if the computers are bricks, we have no books to fall back on. The collected wisdom of Western Civilization is lost forever. And I have to wonder if this wasn't part of the plan all along... to return us to a barbarous state. I can tell that I haven't done any writing for long time. My thoughts are scattered and my presentation is unpolished. We'll see if I can get back into shape.
